"Up to very recently, we have been driven by the concept of GDP growth, and we haven't taken into account the ecosystem services that nature provides to us as part of that GDP growth. A friend of mine that was senior economist at Deutsche Bank calculates that the cost of nature per year is between 3 and 5 trillion dollars. This is nature's capital account and we haven't been measuring in even though we have been drawing from it. What does this mean?"
